Create a species record

Species records define the biological context used by samples, batches, protocols, workflows, reporting, and molecular workflows.

New species form in FlaskTrack
Create a species record with clear identifying metadata before using it in laboratory work.

Create the record

  1. Open Species and select New species.
  2. Choose the domain.
  3. Enter the scientific or Latin name when applicable.
  4. Add the common name.
  5. Select a base species when creating a strain, cultivar, or derived variant.
  6. Enter strain, cultivar, accession, or internal identifiers.
  7. Configure transformation defaults only when they are broadly appropriate.
  8. Add notes and supporting files.
  9. Save and submit the record for review when required.

Base species and variants

Use the base relationship to group related strains or cultivars without losing their distinct identity. Do not combine biologically or operationally different variants only to reduce catalog size.

Transformation defaults

A species may define default Agrobacterium strain or plasmid context for supported transformation workflows. Defaults accelerate selection but do not replace scientific review for a specific procedure.

Quality checklist

  • Taxonomy and naming are correct.
  • Variant identifiers are unambiguous.
  • Domain and base relationship are correct.
  • Defaults are appropriate and not overly broad.
  • Source or reference files are attached.
  • Duplicate records have been avoided.
