Species and transformation strains

Species and strain records connect molecular design to biological context.

FlaskTrack deliberately distinguishes planned use from operational results.

Target species

A target species is the organism the project intends to transform, edit, express within, or otherwise affect.

This is design intent.

Transformation strain

A transformation strain is the strain intended to carry, propagate, or deliver a molecular construct.

For example, an Agrobacterium strain may be selected as the transformation strain for a plant-targeted design.

This is also design intent.

Operational plasmid relationships

A plasmid–strain relationship is a separate catalog record.

It can describe plasmid, strain, selectable marker, copy number, plasmid state, stability notes, verification state, project provenance, assembly provenance, and released sequence provenance.

Three distinct states

Project association
The project plans to use the species or strain.

Operational relationship
A plasmid is recorded as associated with the strain.

Verified relationship
The relationship has supporting review or experimental evidence.

A project association should never be presented as proof of transformation.

Species page

The species page separates Design intent, Operational plasmid relationships, and Verification so planned engineering work is not confused with completed laboratory outcomes.
